Shutter Graphics — Designed, Printed and Fitted to Your Existing Shutter

Shutter graphics are printed vinyl panels applied to a closed roller shutter so the shopfront keeps working as advertising overnight. We have been printing and fitting them since 2010 from our Teesside unit, and install across the UK.

What shutter graphics are

A shutter graphic is your artwork printed onto heavy-duty self-adhesive vinyl, laminated, then applied to the face of an existing roller shutter. Nothing is replaced and the shutter keeps operating exactly as before — the curtain rolls up into the box with the print on it.

Because the print sits on the outside face, the graphic is only visible when the shutter is down. That is the point: the frontage advertises the business through the hours it is closed, which for most retailers is more hours than it is open.

How we build them

Every job starts with a survey. We measure the curtain width and drop, count the slats, note the lath and locks, and photograph the frontage so artwork lines up with the profile rather than being stretched over it.

Print is solvent onto vandal-resistant media, finished with a UV and anti-graffiti laminate as standard on exterior work. Panels are fitted out of hours so the shop never closes for us.

  • Free survey and measured drawing before artwork
  • Artwork proofs approved by you before anything prints
  • Vandal-resistant media, UV-stable inks, anti-graffiti laminate
  • Out-of-hours installation by our own fitters

Graphics on roller shutters — what the surface allows

A roller shutter is not a flat board. The curtain is a run of horizontal slats, each with a corrugation, and it has to roll into a box every morning. That governs how graphics are made: printed vinyl worked into the slat profile rather than stretched across it, panelled vertically, and trimmed clear of the guide rails and bottom lath.

Solid single-skin and insulated curtains reproduce photographic artwork cleanly. Perforated and punched curtains carry graphics well when the design is bold, because roughly a third of the face is open mesh. Lath-and-link grilles suit colour blocks, lettering or a respray rather than detailed imagery.

  • Grilles and pull-down gates — simplified artwork or respray

Vinyl graphics for roller shutters — materials and lifespan

Exterior shutter work is printed on polymeric self-adhesive vinyl with UV-stable inks, then laminated. The laminate does the protecting: it filters UV so colour holds, resists abrasion where the curtain meets the rails, and gives an anti-graffiti surface so tags wipe off with a solvent instead of soaking into the print.

Specified that way, printed shutter vinyl typically holds colour for five to seven years in UK conditions and can be washed down. Individual panels can be lifted and reprinted if a section is damaged, without redoing the whole curtain.

Roller shutter advertising for retailers, brands and landlords

Independent retail, takeaways, barbers, off-licences, pharmacies and phone shops are the everyday jobs. We also run multi-site roll-outs for national chains where every store gets the same specification and a scheduled install window, each frontage surveyed so artwork is sized to its own curtain.

Councils, BIDs and landlords use the same product differently — a street of blank grey shutters is a recognised problem, and printed artwork or murals is the usual remedy alongside shutter resprays and anti-graffiti coatings on the surrounding public realm.

Survey, production and nationwide installation

The order of work is the same on a single shop or a fifty-store roll-out: survey and measured drawing, artwork proof for your approval, print and laminate in our own unit on Teesside, then installation by our own fitters, normally out of hours so trading is not interrupted.

We install across the UK and Ireland. Shutter operation is checked before the team leaves site.

  • Free survey: curtain width, drop, slat count, lath and locks
  • Proof approved before anything is printed
  • Printed and laminated in-house, not brokered out

Common questions

What are shutter graphics?
Shutter graphics are printed, laminated vinyl panels applied to the outside face of an existing roller shutter, turning a closed shopfront into full-colour signage without replacing the shutter.
What are graphics on roller shutters made from?
Polymeric self-adhesive vinyl printed with UV-stable inks and finished with a UV and anti-graffiti laminate. The vinyl is thin and flexible enough to roll into the shutter box with the curtain.
Can roller shutters be branded?
Yes. Any solid-curtain roller shutter can carry full-colour branding. Perforated or lath-and-link shutters can be branded too, but artwork needs simplifying because the open sections break up fine detail.
How long do shutter graphics last?
With a UV and anti-graffiti laminate, printed shutter vinyl typically holds colour for five to seven years outdoors in the UK and can be washed or jet-washed without damage.
Does the shutter still work normally?
Yes. The vinyl is thin and flexible, so the curtain rolls into its box as usual. We check operation before we leave site.
Who installs shutter graphics across the UK?
Shutter Media Ltd designs, prints and installs shutter graphics from its own unit on Teesside and fits nationwide across the UK and Ireland with its own installation teams.
Does the shutter need repainting first?
Only if the existing finish is flaking or rusty. A full shutter respray first gives the vinyl a sound surface to bond to; on a clean curtain we print straight onto it as it is.
